FUNDRAISING Why Do We Need To
Fundraise? This is the fundamental question that all parents have in
the back of their minds as they get started in the public school system -
especially with all of the property taxes that we pay each year. The funding to the school districts does a
great job of covering our buildings, teachers’ salaries, administration of
the district, books, and other necessities.
But lost in that are some much needed student enrichment programs and
community building activities that make the overall learning environment what
it needs to be for all of our children.
The answer to this question comes right from the very mission
statement of the PTA… “The mission of G. J. Anderson Elementary PTA is to
promote programs, provide and coordinate resources, and improve
communications between parents and teachers to enhance the overall quality of
education for all Anderson students.”
In order to carry our our mission, we must raise funds - but
fundraising is NOT our mission. The
funds we receive are put to use for student programs, teacher resources,
family-focused activities, and school improvements. The PTA’s fundraising strategy is driven by the basic
assumption that more is less, and less is more. We work hard to try to develop a
streamlined fundraising calendar, which is more evident this year as we are
consolidating events and trying to make the key fundraisers we do more
effective. Also, we are trying to
eliminate the constant “noise” created in everyone’s mind by too frequent
requests for money. Keep in mind that
not all of these come from the PTA, but you are presented with requests by
schools, churces, community organizations, and sports teams, among
others. There are four basic types of
fundraising that Anderson Elementary PTA will do this year. ·
Active Product Fundraisers - The PTA will be offering
for sale Entertainment Passbooks which provide you with value (via a quality
product for sale), and they provide the PTA with a reasonable income
opportunity at a reasonably effort. ·
Community-Based Fundraisers - These do not cost you any
money, for the funding is typically coming from community businesses and
partners such as the grocery programs, restaurant programs, directory
advertising and Box Tops For Education. ·
Educational Fundraisers - The Fall and Spring Book Fairs
provide your students a great selection of books at very reasonable prices,
and they encourage our youngsters to read!
Also, our Spirit Store offers great spirit wear at very reasonable
prices - and it promotes school spirit for all. ·
Event Fundraisers - The annual Country Fair & Silent
Auction is an event you don’t want to miss.
This is our major fundraiser, for most of the items auctioned are
obtained via donations from local businesses and it is a great time to get
together to mingle with your neighborhood friends. Please browse through the rest of the website to look
for details on each of the fundraising activities that we do and the programs
that we support. Without our
fundraisers, programs like Accelerated Reader incentives, Grade-Level
Resources, Field Day, 6th Grade Field Day, Satff Appreciation,
Arts in Education/Reflections, Shooting Stars and other programs would not be
possible. The PTA brings families into
the school with events like the Ice Cream Social, Chili Cook-Off, Silent
Auction & Family Dance, and other Thursday night programs put on
throughout the year. As you can see, the PTA is very involved in the
enrichment of the educational environment by building closer bonds among the
students, parents and teachers. Thank
you for all of your support and please do not hesitate to let us know if you
have any questions. |
